1. Check for any opened mussels and discard them before cooking, as they are dead and unsafe to eat. 2. In a shallow saucepan over medium to medium-high heat, bring 1.5 cups of broth to a boil (use 2.5 cups if serving as an appetizer). 3. Once the broth is boiling, reduce the heat to medium-medium low and add the mussels to the pan. 4. Cover the pan and steam for about 3-4 minutes. Check for mussels that have opened and remove them with kitchen tongs while the remaining mussels continue to steam. 5. After approximately 7 minutes, remove all mussels from the pan and discard any that have not opened (these are also unsafe to eat). 6. Toss the steamed mussels with pasta or serve them in the broth with a side of sourdough or fries.
